Curling competitions were held for the first time on Sakhalin

The curling final of the Far Eastern Federal District championship was held on the ice of the Vostok training center.

Athletes aged 10-17 years from Primorsky, Khabarovsk Territories and the Sakhalin Region took part in it.

– The very young Curling Federation of the Sakhalin Region pleasantly surprised, it can be said that it burst into the world of this sport and immediately started with the interregional competitions of the Far Eastern Federal District, which were included in the Unified Calendar Plan of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. We really hope that the Sakhalin athletes are not upset by the lack of prizes, since the team just did not have enough experience. The guys themselves are great fellows, very talented, and in the future we are waiting for them at the All-Russian competitions, – said Olga Shashlova, General Director of the Russian Curling Federation.

For four days, seven teams competed for awards in a round robin system. At the end of the competition, the participants were treated to a solemn closing ceremony and awards.

– Dear friends, curling has taken place on Sakhalin. I congratulate everyone on the victory! You are strong in spirit and glorify the Far East. You have started communication between the curling teams. I wish you great success in the future, – Sergey Bondarev, President of the Sakhalin Curling Federation, thanked the athletes.

The director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Regional Ministry of Sports Irina Ryabkina and the Chairman of the Standing Committee joined the congratulations to the participants of the competition.

– Congratulations on finishing the first curling tournament on Sakhalin. We are full of optimism, our colleagues from the federation of Primorye and the Khabarovsk Territory noted the great potential of the island athletes. I am sure that we have great victories and achievements in curling ahead, – he summed up.

As a result of the competition, all three prize-winning places were taken by teams from the Khabarovsk Territory.
