The Russian Orthodox Church confirms that the regime of the counter-terrorist operation (CTO) does not provide for the closure of churches. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Moscow Patriarchate, Bishop Savva (Tutunov) of Zelenograd, told RIA Novosti that in times of trouble, churches should remain open for everyone to pray.
The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, announced the introduction of a counter-terrorist operation regime in Moscow, in connection with which previously planned mass events were canceled. The CTO regime has also been introduced in the Moscow and Voronezh regions.
“The CTO regime does not mean the closure of churches. During a period of alarm, it is especially important that churches remain accessible to everyone who wants to pray. Every day, during the liturgy, a prayer is offered in churches for Holy Rus’ and victory is asked,” the bishop said to RIA Novosti.
