As part of the ninth round of the Russian Football Championship, a match was held with the participation of teams that are not just included in the group of leaders, but took places in the top three. CSKA, which was on the second line, received Krasnodar, which was inferior to the army team by one position only in additional indicators. The army team won with a big score of 4:1, scoring three goals from the penalty spot. Thanks to this victory, they had 20 points, and they caught up with Zenit.
Even though the confrontation between CSKA and Krasnodar was not the only one in the ninth round, in which representatives of the leading group of the Russian Championship of seven teams competed, it deserved special attention. It is no coincidence that these clubs were in the top three, gaining 17 points after eight matches. CSKA was defeated only by Zenit, and that was not clean, but with certain chances of a draw. Krasnodar lost only to Spartak, but largely because they ran into a removal and remained in the minority early. In general, both Muscovites and Kuban looked solid at the start of the season.
In addition, CSKA and Krasnodar have been actively working on the recently closed transfer market, solving urgent personnel problems as much as possible and creating the depth of the squad. In particular, the “bulls” have already strengthened the middle line at the flag, especially since they lost the defensive midfielder Alexander Chernikov, who was seriously injured. In this zone, they acquired the Cape Verdian Kevin Lenini from the Portuguese “Chaves”, and also signed a contract with his teammate Angolan Batchi, who is an attacking midfielder. But so far only the second got into the application for the game.
The army team completed the re-entry campaign with the transfer of Brazilian defender Willian Roshi. Moreover, if he watched the previous match with Krylya Sovetov from the bench, now he has already appeared on the field from the first minutes.
Actually, all five newcomers of CSKA came out in the “start”, which head coach Vladimir Fedotov is gradually building into his system.
It is curious that before the meeting with each other, both teams not only scored 17 points each, but also scored 17 goals each. Jorge Carrascal, Jesús Medina and Fedor Chalov shared 12 goals among the red-blues, while Eduard Spertsyan-Olakunle Olusegun-John Cordoba scored the same amount for the black-greens. Although the clear leader in the Krasnodar trio is, of course, Spertsyan, who scored seven times and topped the list of the top scorers of the championship along with Quincy Promes from Spartak, as well as Christian Noboa from Sochi, who joined them in the ninth round.
Special attention was paid to the opposition of goalkeepers. The playing legend of CSKA Igor Akinfeev in the last round in general issued the 300th “cracker”, and in the current championship he has already played four matches to zero. Matvey Safonov is one of the main culprits behind the successful performance of Krasnodar. He literally drags the team, so he immediately started the game with the army team by repelling Chalov’s blow from a dangerous distance.
Muscovites in the opening acted much more aggressively and did not limit themselves to Chalov’s moment. Carrascal was in an even better position after the transfer of Milan Gajic from the right. The Colombian was right in front of the goal, but shot well above the crossbar. And in the middle of the first half, CSKA earned a penalty. And at first, the referee Sergei Ivanov did not believe Chalov, who jumped out face to face with Safonov and fell beautifully, throwing the ball past the goalkeeper.
The referee considered that the striker feigned a violation of the rules, and even presented him with a yellow card. However, after consulting with assistants from the VAR team and revisiting the episode in a replay, he changed the verdict. As a result, Carrascal converted a 11-meter throw, and CSKA took the lead.
Krasnodar made several attempts to recoup in hot pursuit. Twice he hit Cordoba on goal, but in the first case, the Kuban Colombian attacked at too sharp an angle, and in the second, Akinfeev easily coped with his blow. More than anything concrete in the attack of the guests before the break was not. But the right-back Gaich almost scored a goal for the army team, who closed the cross of Moizes in touch. Safonov pulled the ball out from under the bar. Well, in stoppage time of the first half, the hosts scored another penalty. Their pressure on the penalty area led to the fact that Olusegun inadvertently hooked Carrascal, and Ivanov already pointed to the “point” without hesitation. True, the red-blue, as they say, changed their foot, and Chalov took the second penalty instead of Carrascal.
2-0 in such a match seemed like a pretty big advantage. But in the 47th minute, Krasnodar defender Christian Ramirez sharply aggravated the intrigue, when from the rebound after a corner he charged so much from behind the penalty area that even Akinfeev was powerless. Guests noticeably cheered up, but soon managed to bring a third penalty. Kayo, of course, did not want to, nevertheless, he unwittingly played with his hand when Willian hit his head. Now Medina went to the 11-meter mark. Safonov figured out the idea of the Paraguayan, but Gaich was the first to rush to finish and hit the target. However, the Serb ran into the penalty area ahead of time, and Medina had to interrupt. From the second time he outwitted Safonov.
Thus, Krasnodar again rolled back to the minus two difference, having at their disposal about half an hour. But they didn’t even have a hint of a comeback in the remaining time.
The army team defended well and regularly raided other people’s goals, so in the end they still achieved success from the game. Ivan Oblyakov did everything to ensure that Adolfo Gaich scored his first goal in the Russian Premier League.
CSKA won a big victory – 4:1, having caught up with the championship leader Zenit with 20 points. At the same time, the Petersburgers have a home match with Orenburg ahead. Krasnodar is still third, but it can still be forced out of the top three by Rostov or Spartak, who will sort things out on Sunday.
