Crocodile mummies found in southern Egypt

Ten crocodile mummies have been found in an ancient tomb in Egypt. At the same time, only five carcasses were completely preserved. From five more mummies, only the heads remained. The finds date back to the pre-Ptolemaic era – before 304 BC. Crocodiles were then used to conduct rituals that were dedicated to the ancient Egyptian god Sobek. The idol was often represented in the form of a crocodile or a man with the head of a crocodile. Sobek was supposed to protect the Egyptians from the dangers posed by the Nile.
Scientists note that in Egypt there are more than 20 burials in which there are mummies of crocodiles. But to have 10 animals buried in one place is rare.
