Crimea will adjust the strategy for providing water after the breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station

The head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, said that the authorities of the region will adjust the strategy for providing the peninsula with water due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

“We will adjust our strategy for providing Crimea with water and continue to carry out activities aimed at creating a sustainable water supply in our reservoirs. This, among other things, is the optimization of the water system, the creation of additional tanks for the accumulation of water, the use of underground sources, and so on. We are implementing this program, we already have good results,” Mr. Konstantinov said. “RIA News”.

The head of parliament said that the water level in the North Crimean Canal, which provides the peninsula with drinking and running water, is decreasing, the situation is being analyzed. According to him, to date, none of the agricultural producers has turned to the local authorities for help, there is nothing threatening for the inhabitants of the region. He stressed that the peninsula is sufficiently provided with water resources.

“As for the consequences of the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Kakhovskaya HPP, of course, we will be able to draw final conclusions, assess the damage from this crime later, after analyzing the situation by specialists,” Mr. Konstantinov concluded.

On June 6, the head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov declared about the risk of shallowing of the North Crimean Canal due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. Water enters the canal from the Kakhovka reservoir. As of June 29, the water level in it reached six meters, the reservoir continues to shallow. Mr. Aksenov saidthat Russian specialists are working out options for filling the North Crimean Canal with water from the Dnieper using pumps.
