Crimea explained why the region never seceded from the Russian Federation

The process of transferring Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 was held with violations and was not legally formalized, said Vladimir Konstantinov, head of the Crimean parliament.

In a commentary to RIA Novosti, he noted that a detailed study of the issue shows that Crimea never seceded from the Russian Federation, whose borders did not change in 1954, and therefore in 2014. According to him, this means that the very process of transferring Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR was carried out with complete disregard for the opinion of the Crimean population, and besides, it was not properly organized from a legal point of view.

Konstantinov also noted that the document justifying the cancellation of the decision to transfer the Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR will be issued faster than it might seem at first glance. According to him, there are a lot of gross procedural violations.

“These are not some complex casuistic legal norms that need to be proved. The violations committed are so gross and flagrant that we are still wondering how this could happen,” Konstantinov said.

According to him, those structures that made the relevant decision did not have the necessary rights. “It’s as if the Crimean State Council decided to transfer Texas to Mexico,” he said.

He added that the Supreme Soviets of the republics did not make decisions on the transfer at all, and new administrative borders were also not defined, moreover, a referendum was not held, despite the corresponding requirement of the Constitution of the USSR, and guarantees for the protection of cultural, linguistic and all regional traditions were not stipulated. population of the Crimea.

According to him, in fact, there are much more violations.
