Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the idea of creating a continuous line of defense along the entire front belongs to President Vladimir Putin. The head of the Ministry of Defense noted that thanks to this line, it was possible to stop the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces in the summer.
“The President decided to create a deeply echeloned line of defense along the entire length of the line of contact, which is more than 2 thousand km, but this is not just a deeply echeloned line – it is a defense that allows you to attack in certain directions, but at the same time knock out enemy weapons forces,” the minister said in an interview with TASS following a meeting with the president.
Sergei Shoigu noted that Vladimir Putin personally controlled the process of creating a defense line. “As a result, the enemy did not even manage to get through to the first line of defense – and there are two more there,” he added.
Previously, in the media, the fortifications created by the Russian army on the front line were called the “Surovikin Line” – after the name of the former commander of the Northern Military District forces Sergei Surovikin.
Today, February 20, Sergei Shoigu presented Vladimir Putin reports on the capture of Avdeevka. He noted that the General Staff managed to carry out an operation to establish control over the city with minimal losses and with maximum efficiency. The President congratulated the Russian armed forces and emphasized that the servicemen who took part in the hostilities in Avdievka deserve the highest awards.
