Russian business is actively looking for couriers. Demand for them has doubled this year. The most in demand are delivery workers who fulfill orders using cars, electric scooters and other vehicles, Avito Services analysts found out. According to them, this is due to the growth in sales of goods in online stores and ready-made food. As Kommersant FM was told by Yandex food tech services, the number of orders over the past year has increased by 40%.

Against the backdrop of a staff shortage, couriers can receive a more favorable salary offer, notes Natalya Golovanova, head of the Superjob.ru research center: “We were especially faced with a shortage of couriers during COVID-19, when delivery services developed especially actively and even those companies began delivering goods. who haven’t thought about it before. Since then, we have seen increased demand for couriers. This is due to the fact that the delivery services of the largest services go to the regions as well.

Over the year in Russia, delivery service vacancies have increased by 65%, according to our data, but the number of resumes has decreased by 5%. Competition for vacancies has decreased by almost 50%. If we talk about the dynamics of wages for couriers in Moscow, for a walking courier the average salary, calculated according to the median, is 70 thousand rubles. per month. The maximum, subject to a large number of deliveries, is 120 thousand rubles. Plus 17% – this is the growth rate of average market wages over the year. And if we talk about courier drivers, then, of course, the numbers are higher. Average – 95 thousand rubles, maximum reaches 200 thousand rubles. The growth rate is a little less, but still significant, plus 12% per year.”

In 2023, the demand for couriers in Russia grew even more significantly, almost fourfold, as calculated by the Avito Work service. Business representatives interviewed by Kommersant FM say that they have to change approaches to hiring and introduce loyalty programs for such employees:

Logistics company SDEK: “We conducted an internal study some time ago and found out that there are the following top 3 factors: working conditions, relationships in the team and opportunities for growth and development. That is, we indexed wages, organized delivery of personnel to remote places of work where this did not exist yet, organized meals for employees, and, in addition, we also introduced flexible work schedules where possible.”

Yandex foodtech services: “We are trying to solve this issue in different ways. For example, we actively attract couriers through performance marketing tools, outdoor advertising, and a referral program. that is, conditionally, a current courier who cooperates with our services can attract his friends and acquaintances to become couriers too, and receives a bonus for this. Plus, support programs for couriers include insurance programs, activities for children of couriers, assistance with vehicle repairs, discounts on lunches, and rental vehicles.”

Flowwow Marketplace: “We are not experiencing a shortage of couriers, as there were holidays just recently, and many new users connected to our mobile application for couriers. In principle, we do not use the services of couriers using electric transport, since the specifics of our service involve the delivery of very fragile and delicate goods. Couriers are always attracted by the opportunity to receive good payment for their hard work. In our case, I think the low service commission plays a decisive role. And also, by interviewing couriers from our application, we learned that many care about what they deliver. Many respondents noted that they were pleased to deliver beautiful goods and see smiles on the recipients’ faces.”

The National Agency for Fiscal Research found that almost 70% of Russians took on a part-time job during 2023. Most often they paid attention to courier vacancies.
