Cormorant crisis // Irkutsk deputies propose to protect Baikal from birds
[ad_1]
The deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Angara region called for a series of tough measures to be taken against the cormorants living on Lake Baikal and reservoirs of the Angara cascade of hydroelectric power stations. Parliamentarians insist that the bird excluded from the regional Red Book two years ago has bred and destroys commercial fish on an industrial scale, which is becoming a social problem. In this regard, “it is proposed to find a legal mechanism for regulating the number of cormorants in order to preserve the fish population and ensure food security for the inhabitants of the Irkutsk region.” Cormorants, in particular, are at risk of being shot.
