The most unusual and popular queries on the topic of spelling words were studied by experts in Russian literature on the occasion of All-Russian Dictionary Day. It is celebrated every year on November 22, the birthday of the author of the most famous dictionary of the Russian language, Vladimir Dahl.
As MK was informed on the Gramota.ru portal, most often users were interested in how to write the construction “despite” – 6,136 such requests were made on the site in October.
In second place in popularity was the question of how to correctly write: “in the city of Moscow” or “in the city of Moscow.” This was asked 5285 times. In third place – 4804 requests – is the use of the phrase “just like”. 2995 people checked how to spell “agreements or agreements” correctly. And 2924 requests specified how to write – “come or come.”
The portal’s staff also investigated unusual requests from Russians. Thus, 435 people asked how to spell the word “cashback”, and 422 people checked the spelling of the word “half a liter”. 416 users asked in which cases “you” is written with a capital letter, and in which cases with a small letter. The same number of requests were received to check the spelling of the phrase “Red Army”. In addition, 403 people asked whether “mattress” or “mattress” is spelled correctly.
