Construction of the Torpedo Stadium named after Eduard Streltsov begins

On September 20, in Moscow on Vostochnaya Street, the construction of a new stadium for the Moscow Torpedo was launched.

The ceremony symbolizing the beginning of the construction of the stadium was the immersion of the first pile into its foundation. Live broadcast was conducted on the channel of club television in social networks.

Due to safety requirements, the number of participants on the construction site was significantly limited. But, as stated in the official statement, anyone could take part in this historic event, since the first pile at the base of the stadium became a real art object. Before installation, it was prepared and painted in a special way, and the club’s fans and everyone else could leave their signatures and messages on it.

“With the construction of a new stadium, there will be a new chapter in the history of Torpedo. The team has gone through hard times from the amateur league to the Premier League. A new stadium is currently under construction. No matter how ridiculous it may sound, but the bus was also bought recently. Everything new appears everywhere. We are going in the right direction and we hope that the team will show a good and stable result at the new stadium in the future, ”said Igor Lebedenko, the Torpedo striker, in an interview with the Championship.

The construction of the Torpedo stadium named after Eduard Streltsov should be completed approximately in 2025. Its capacity after reconstruction will be 15,000 seats, and natural turf will be laid on the main field, ”the team said in a statement on social networks.

The Torpedo Stadium was built in Moscow in 1959 and was used as a training field for the Likhachev Plant’s football team of the same name. The first match at the stadium took place on April 15, 1977 as part of the USSR championship, Torpedo – Chernomorets. The grand opening of the arena took place on September 7, 1960.

On July 21, 1997, the Torpedo stadium was named after Eduard Streltsov, the legendary striker of the team of the same name. On November 3, 1999, a monument to Streltsov, made by sculptor Alexander Tarasenko, was erected at the main entrance to the territory of the sports complex.
