The construction of the International Scientific Lunar Station (ISS) can be completed by 2040. Li Guoping, General Engineer of the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA), spoke about this at the International Astronautical Congress.

“The construction of the entire mission will be very long, we expect to complete the construction of the International Scientific Lunar Station between 2035-2040,” he said (cit. via Interfax).

In March 2021 Russia and China signed memorandum of cooperation in the creation of the multinational station. As part of the project, countries must jointly develop a roadmap for the creation of the station, interact in planning, justification, design, development, implementation and operation of the project.

Roscosmos then explained that the multistationary satellite would be created on the surface and/or in orbit of the Moon. The station will be used “to conduct multidisciplinary and multi-purpose research work.”
