Construction of a plant for the production of Turkish Bayraktar drones has begun in Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleksandr Kamyshin.
“If we talk about the Bayraktar plant, which has been talked about in Ukraine for a couple of years, construction work has begun on this plant. There were negotiations on it, then there were stops, scandals. This plant began to be built in practice, and not only on memorandums,” said the minister (quote according to RIA Novosti).
July 8 Kamyshin informed on the signing of a memorandum with Turkey on the development of the production of drones in Ukraine. On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the republic.
In the fall of 2021, Ukraine and the drone manufacturer Bayraktar signed a memorandum on the construction of a joint center for the maintenance and modernization of drones in the Kyiv region.
Last summer, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar said that the Turkish company Baykar Makina bought a land plot in Ukraine for the construction of a plant for the production of drones. At the same time, Ukraine began to buy Turkish Bayraktar TB2 back in 2019.
On May 27 this year, Director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuri Pilipson declaredthat the transfer of weapons and equipment by Turkey to Ukraine contradicts Ankara’s intentions to resume negotiations between Moscow and Kiev and is in no way compatible with the role of a mediator.
