In late May – early June, hunters handed over to the residents of the village of Kuanda a batch of trichinosis-infected bear meat weighing from 50 to 100 kg, the representative of the supervisory authority added. “People ate some of it, some was seized and destroyed after cases of the disease began to appear,” she said. According to Anna Dorozhkova, residents are still reluctant to share information about eating bear meat.
On mass bear poisoning became known July 3, when people from a remote Trans-Baikal village who felt unwell began to seek medical help. All of them ate bear meat in early June. Among the victims are people living in the villages of Kuanda and Novaya Chara.
