Congress will approve aid to Ukraine by Christmas – Speaker of the House of Representatives

The American Congress will approve the provision of additional aid to Ukraine by Christmas, said US House Speaker Michael Johnson.

According to him, the United States cannot “allow Putin to march through Europe.”

“We understand the need to provide assistance to Ukraine,” the speaker emphasized.

At the same time, he said, assistance to Israel is currently the top priority for the United States, and assistance to Ukraine is “another priority.”

American media also report that Johnson links assistance to Ukraine with a tightening of the government’s policy towards the Mexican border, which the Biden administration opposes.

Earlier it was reported that US President Joe Biden’s request to allocate another package of military assistance to Ukraine will be considered in the Senate on December 4. As noted, the request also included funds to assist Israel and other “national security” purposes.

Earlier, the US administration asked Congress to allocate more than $105 billion to support Ukraine and Israel. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives has so far refused to consider this request jointly, proposing that aid to Ukraine and some other items be separated for separate discussion.

The head of the House Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner, said that Ukraine has very little chance of receiving a new aid package from the United States before the end of 2023. Turner noted that this is hampered by the White House policy regarding the southern border of the United States, which remains under threat. The Hill notes that a growing number of Republican Party members in the House of Representatives oppose approval of increased aid to Kyiv.

The Pentagon reported that restrictions on arms supplies to the Kyiv regime have already begun. Earlier, US President Joe Biden signed a new temporary budget until January-February. The document does not provide for the allocation of assistance to Ukraine and Israel.
