In Moscow, work has been completed on the overhaul of a residential building on Amundsen Street. The three-storey building (building 3, building 3) was erected in 1953 and is part of a unique ensemble, made in neoclassical style, being an architectural highlight of the Sviblovo district.
Repair work was carried out taking into account the features of the historic building. Specialists of the Capital Repair Fund updated the facade, replaced the entrance doors to the entrance, updated the canopies and porches.
“The specialists had a difficult task to preserve the original beauty of this house. We have developed a project for the overhaul of the facade, which takes into account all the nuances of the object. We have selected materials and technologies with the utmost care. In May, the cleaning of the planes from the old paint layer, the jointing of the seams started. After that, they began to seal the cracks with a special building compound. They made a local repair of the brickwork, treated with an antiseptic and a strengthening agent the places of greatest wear. Then we proceeded to the most difficult part of the overhaul – the restoration of the architectural decoration. High technologies were used to fragment the places of loss with maximum accuracy. As a result, all the stucco decor was carefully preserved. At the final stage, a new plaster and paint layer was applied. Now the portrait of the house is fresh and bright,” said Vladimir Kozhichenkov, Deputy General Director of the FCR of Moscow.
The basement part of the building was also overhauled: a new plaster layer was painted, preserving the historical color scheme. Completely replaced ebbs and street drain.
The architecture of this house, built according to an individual project, reflects the trends of the 50s of the XX century.
“This cinematically preserved island in the north-east of the capital is a vivid example of Soviet neoclassicism of that time. House 3 building 3 has a complex shape in plan. The main facade of the building is flanked by trihedral bay windows. The pediment supports the central axis of the façade. Loggias are marked with arched openings. Part of the window spaces of various shapes are decorated with platbands and window sills. Along the perimeter of the house there is a crowning cornice supported by consoles,” the FCR said in a statement.
The street on which the building is located is named after the polar explorer Raoul Amundsen, who 111 years ago was the first to reach the South Pole, becoming the first person in history to complete a circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle. He was nicknamed “Napoleon of the polar countries”.
