Moscow authorities intend to choose a Russian name for the fare payment service in transport using the Face Pay facial recognition system, Deputy Mayor of the capital Maxim Liksutov said.
“We propose to choose the Russian name for the Face Pay service,” said Liksutov (quote by Interfax). According to him, a competition will be held to choose the name. Its winner will receive three years of free travel in public transport.
Since September 3, the Face Pay system has been launched in test mode at all stations of the Moscow Central Circle. According to statistics from the Moscow Department of Transport, more than 190,000 citizens use Face Pay. On September 1, 15 stations of the Moscow Central Ring were connected to the payment system – Kutuzovskaya, Avtozavodskaya, Andronovka, Baltiyskaya, Rokossovsky Boulevard, Vladykino, Dubrovka, ZIL, Zorge, Izmailovo, Koptevo, Likhobory, Lokomotiv, Nizhny Novgorod and Okruzhnaya.
Face Pay has been launched at metro stations since October 15, 2021. You can connect to it in the Moscow Metro app.
Liksutov said on July 26 that it is planned to scale up payment using Face Pay: in the future it will also become available for passengers of regular river routes, and the possibility of using it in Aeroexpress is also being considered.
