Today, November 17, the sea crossing Kholmsk (Sakhalin) – Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory) was closed. This is due to the cyclone, reports Ministry of Transport of the Sakhalin Region.
“Due to the approach of a cyclone, the effect of which will spread throughout the Tatar Strait, traffic through the Kholmsk-Vanino ferry crossing will be closed from the second half of the day on November 17,” the Ministry of Transport said in a statement. Ferry traffic is planned to resume on November 19.
The cyclone will bring heavy rains, sleet and stormy winds to Sakhalin. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk mayor’s office reported that a sharp rise in river levels by 1-2 meters is expected over the weekend in the south of Sakhalin, as well as on the floodplain. Due to heavy wet snow in the Yakovlevsky district of Primorye, the movement of trucks and buses on the Spassk-Varfolomeevka highway has already been limited.
