Commander of the Northern Fleet warned of growing negative trends in the Arctic

Despite relative stability and the absence of real challenges and threats to regional security in the Arctic, negative military-political trends are growing in the region. This is stated in the report of the commander of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy Alexander Moiseev, which was distributed by the press service of the fleet.

“The forces and troops of the Northern Fleet, being in a high degree of combat readiness, perform the entire range of tasks to parry military dangers and threats in the Arctic region, including in the waters of the Northern Sea Route,” added Mr. Moiseev (quoted by RIA Novosti) . At the same time, according to Mr. Moiseev, “the military-political situation in the region at the present stage is characterized by an increase in negative trends.”

Alexander Moiseev noted that the Northern Fleet was allocated to a separate strategic direction due to the prospects for the development of the Russian Arctic region. According to him, that is why the Northern Fleet has been operating as an independent strategic territorial association of the Russian army in the Arctic since 2014, and since 2020 it has been assigned the status of a military district.

Mr. Moiseev’s report was devoted to the role of the Northern Fleet in strengthening the defense capability and security of Russia, as well as protecting its national interests in the Arctic. He spoke with him at a meeting with the participants of the 62nd conference of the Parliamentary Association of the North-West of Russia, which was held in the Murmansk region.
