The new commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Oleksandr Pivnenko said that the commanders of the Azov regiment released by Turkey (recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia and banned) will return to the front, there are no bans on their participation in hostilities.

“They are preparing and will carry out tasks like everyone else,” Pivnenko said in an interview with Ukrainian publication “Is it true”.

When asked by journalists whether there is a ban on the participation of “Azov” in hostilities, the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine said that no one had told him that someone could not fight.

Also, with a separate question, he commented on the return to the battlefield of the lieutenant colonel of the National Guard, the commander of the Azov regiment Denis Prokopenko, known by the call sign Radis. According to him, it will be possible to see him at the front within a month. “Depending on the situation at the front,” Pivnenko added.

Recall that Prokopenko and other Azov commanders surrendered to Russian troops on May 20, 2022 after the defense of Azovstal. On September 21, 2022, as part of an exchange of prisoners of war, Prokopenko was released from Russian captivity and, together with four other unit commanders Svyatoslav Palamar, Oleg Khomenko, Sergey Volynsky, Denis Shlega, went to Turkey. By agreement, the “Azov” were to stay in Turkey until the end of the conflict. However, in July of this year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan handed over the Azovites to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and they returned to Ukraine.
