The team of eight Tyumen residents will be led by the hero of Russia Rustam Saifulin.
The “Defenders of the Fatherland Cup” competition, in which 150 combat veterans from 20 subjects of the Volga and Ural federal districts will take part, will be held in Ufa on November 20-23. One of the main tasks of the upcoming competitions is to show participants the wide possibilities of Paralympic sports.
“Involvement in sports is the best rehabilitation for returning children who have been seriously injured to a peaceful, and most importantly, active life,” says Dinara Poshtarenko, head of the Tyumen Region branch of the Fund for Supporting Participants of the Military Operation “Defenders of the Fatherland.” “It is very important for them to remain strong in spirit and body, understand their importance, and achieve results in sports and life.”
Competitions will be held in six areas: powerlifting, arm wrestling, archery, shooting, table tennis and sitting volleyball.
The Tyumen team is actively preparing for the competition.
“We are at the finish line. All the guys’ eyes are burning. We strongly hope that such an event will move from the regional to the all-Russian level,” Yuri Knopkin, president of the Tyumen Region Archery Federation, shared his opinion.
“I got acquainted with the sport of archery. Gets interested, develops the eye and muscles. Most likely, I will continue to engage in this sport,” said Vitaly Slevelev, a participant in the Defenders of the Fatherland Cup.
