Former First Deputy Chief of the General Staff Manilov dies at 85
TASS, citing Nikolai Deryabin, head of the apparatus of the Club of Military Commanders of the Russian Federation, reports the death of the 84-year-old former first deputy chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Colonel General Valery Manilov.
He died on Saturday after a long illness. The funeral will take place on July 3 at the military memorial cemetery in Mytishchi.
Valery Manilov from September 1996 to June 2001 was the first deputy chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces and led the information support of the actions of the federal forces in the Chechen Republic.
Manilov has awards: “For Services to the Fatherland” IV degree, “For Military Merit”, the Red Star, “For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” 3rd degree and others.
