Colombian police chief admits to using exorcism to fight crime

Colombian Police Chief General Henry Sanabria confessedthat he and other officers used prayers and exorcism to fight crime in the country. Including during the arrest of the leader of the drug cartel, Pablo Escobar.
Sanabria claims that religious practices over the past 50 years have helped him during armed conflicts with crime. As examples, he cited the assassination of Escobar in 1993, FARC guerrilla leader Alfonso Cano in 2011, and his henchman known as “Mono Jojoy” in 2010.
“The existence of the devil is certain. I saw him. I felt it,” Sanabria said. According to him, opponents of the police also resorted to witchcraft.
His statement sparked a heated exchange on Colombian social media. A country famous for Catholic traditions.
The President of the country Gustavo Petro did not support the debate of fellow citizens. He stated that the authorities are aware of the general’s beliefs, but they do not affect the quality of his service.
Sanabria has previously provoked scandals by opposing abortion and condom use. He also condemned the celebration of the “satanic” Halloween, and called the international day of women’s solidarity on March 8 sexist.
