Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced his country’s intention to propose full UN membership status for Palestine in a post on his social media account X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
Petro’s publication states that Colombia plans to submit a proposal to the UN to recognize Palestine as a full member state. It is noted that as of now, Palestine has the status of an observer state that is not a member of the UN.
In addition, the Colombian leader also called the attack on the Al-Shifa hospital by Israel “a massacre unleashed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
