Climatologist Alexey Kokorin shared his forecast with RIA Novosti that the powerful storm that hit Crimea could repeat itself several more times before the end of the century. He noted that evidence of climate change is not a specific storm in Crimea or heavy snowfall in Moscow, but that these phenomena have begun to occur more often.
According to the expert, heat waves have begun to occur in the world five times more often compared to the 19th century, and storms – 2-3 times more often. He also suggested that the increase in the frequency of natural hazards could lead to a revision of plans for the construction of protective structures.
Over the weekend, a Mediterranean cyclone hit Crimea, bringing stormy weather with downpours and hurricane-force winds of up to 40 meters per second.
