Microsoft-owned Bethesda Softworks said that starting April 9, owners of Husqvarna robotic lawn mowers from the NERA line will receive a free update that will allow them to play the classic version of the Doom shooter. To participate in the program, registration will be required, and the game itself will be available until September 9.
The registration period ends on August 26, and residents of Europe, Australia and New Zealand, as well as South Africa will have the opportunity to play Doom on lawn mowers. Only the first episode of the game, Knee-Deep in the Dead, will be available; there will be no multiplayer support. Gameplay will be displayed on the NERA color display, and the game will be played using the lawnmower controls, for example, some buttons are responsible for movement, and the selection wheel is for turning the camera and shooting.
Previously, only participants in a closed Doom tournament had the opportunity to play on lawnmowers. The classic version of the game could also be played on a tractor, inside the Blonot application, on a Christmas tree decoration, and even on the Backspace key with a tiny screen.
