The “devilish” comet 12P/Pons-Brooks with a diameter of 30 kilometers is approaching the Earth. In the near future it will explode with gas and ice, writes the Daily Storm.
It is noted that the comet will approach its maximum distance from Earth in June 2024. However, within a few hours there will be a powerful release of a mixture of gas and ice.
Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks has been nicknamed the “devil’s comet” because it appears to form “horns” around its edges during eruptions. Comets are usually icy balls of gas, rock and dust, but 12P/Pons-Brooks is a cryovolcanic comet.
Apparently, the comet ejects ice and gas every 15 days. The last explosion occurred on December 14, the next one is expected on December 29-30.
12P/Pons-Brooks was opened in 1812. It makes a complete revolution around the Sun every 71 years.
