Deputies of the City Duma of Krasnodar supported the amendments prohibiting the use of foreign languages on signs of commercial facilities, informs portal “Kuban 24”.

IN document it is noted that the use of symbols and inscriptions in foreign languages in such texts and images is permitted if the trade name of commercial organizations, trademarks and service marks is indicated.

If the languages of the peoples of Russia are used on signs, then the texts in such languages and Russian must be identical in content.

As Kuban 24 points out, the Mayor of Krasnodar Evgeny Naumov drew attention to the excessive amount of advertising in English and some other languages.

“You know, in this situation, in which the country is now, it’s somehow not patriotic,” he said then, adding that every second entrepreneur is ready to change signs.

In April 2022, the head of the Duma Committee on Culture, Elena Yampolskaya, announced the preparation of a bill that would tighten the rules for using anglicisms in advertising and signs. According to her, on the central streets of Moscow, on average, there are 30-50% more signs in English or in Latin characters than signs in Russian. She pointed out that Russians should be surrounded by their native language and alphabet. In June of the same year, the speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, said that the discussion of the bill banning signboards in foreign languages was continuing.
