CIS leaders met at the Russian Museum on the second day of the summit

On the second day of the traditional New Year’s Eve Commonwealth summit in St. Petersburg, the leaders of the CIS countries arrived at the Mikhailovsky Palace, where they examined the exposition of the Russian Museum and had an informal breakfast.
Presidents of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko arrived at the Mikhailovsky Palace on the same Aurus. According to the Telegram channel “Pool of the First”, the heads of state settled in the suburbs of St. Petersburg, in Strelna, and in the morning Putin “dropped in” for his colleague.
The Russian and Belarusian leaders held a bilateral meeting while the rest of the summit participants arrived at the Russian Museum. During this meeting, they agreed to “discuss serious matters.” Putin also stressed that he is in constant contact with Lukashenka.
An informal CIS summit is being held in St. Petersburg on December 26-27. It brought together the heads of the countries of the Commonwealth. In particular, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan take part in the event.
On the first day of the summit, the heads of state met at the Presidential Library on Senate Square, where the official part of the summit took place. The leaders of the states summed up the main results of the outgoing year and exchanged views on the main areas of further cooperation.
In his opening remarks, Putin drew attention that the number of challenges facing the CIS countries is increasing, security threats are also increasing and disagreements are arising within the Commonwealth. Despite this, the CIS countries are “ready and will cooperate.” According to him, in case of problematic issues, the states try to solve them together and “render comradely assistance to each other.”
