The summer cider festival, which was supposed to take place in the capital in June, was decided to be postponed, tentatively, for a month. This was reported by the organizers of the event, explaining that the cause was a series of fatal alcohol poisoning in several Russian regions.
“We have all witnessed a monstrous tragedy that caused many victims,” stated RBC representative of the organizer.
The interlocutor of the publication noted that fatal poisoning with surrogate alcohol, sold under the guise of cider, caused damage to the image of this drink, and therefore holding the festival is not possible at the moment. The death of people from a surrogate provoked the emergence of “an informational background that distorts the truth about traditional cider.” It is noted that the festival can take place no earlier than mid-July.
At the beginning of this month, cases of poisoning with the drink “Mr. Cider” began to be recorded in the Samara and Ulyanovsk regions and a number of neighboring regions. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, more than 100 people were injured, 31 died. The examination revealed the presence of methanol and butane impurities in the drink and absence components of natural cider – apple juice. By decision of Rospotrebnadzor in 17 regions, the drink was withdrawn from sale for a total volume of over 70 thousand liters. SC opened a criminal case. According to investigators, the surrogate alcohol used to produce the drink was stolen from the warehouses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
