Chuvash village quarantined due to cases of anthrax infection

The head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolaev, signed a decree on the introduction of quarantine in the village of Staroe Aktashevo, Tsivilsky municipal district. Earlier, two cases of anthrax infections were detected in the village. Decree published on website authorities of the republic.
“Establish restrictive measures (quarantine) for anthrax in the territory of the epizootic focus, disadvantaged point and threatened zone, specified in paragraph 2 of this Decree, from March 16, 2023 until further notice. Determine the epizootic focus within the territory of a personal subsidiary plot located at the address: Chuvash Republic, Tsivilsky municipal district, village of Staroe Aktashevo, st. Zaprudnaya, 18,” the decree says.
The document also defines a “unfavorable point” within the territory around the epizootic focus with a radius of 2 km and a “threatened zone” with a radius of 5 km from the boundaries of the unfavorable point.
For the period of restrictive measures, the decree prohibits, in particular, unauthorized people from visiting the epizootic focus, except for personnel performing production operations, including with animals susceptible to ulcers, and moving susceptible animals. The entry and exit of vehicles from the territory of the outbreak is also prohibited.
March 15 Mr. Nikolaev informedthat in the Tsivilsky municipal district, two local residents became infected with anthrax. They have been admitted to the hospital. The Ministry of Health assessed their condition as moderate. Office of Rospotrebnadzor for Chuvashia later clarifiedthat the cause of infection was contact with livestock raw materials – butchered carcass of a bull.
