Church of England decides to introduce ‘gender-neutral’ terms for God

The Guardian reported that the Anglican Church had come up with a proposal to use a gender-neutral term for God. According to the publication, after numerous requests from the clergy this spring, the church will create a special commission that will consider the issue of the legality of using the pronoun “he” in relation to God.
The newspaper cited the words of one of the parishioners of the Anglican Church, who said that Christians since ancient times believed that God is neither a man nor a woman, but the variety of ways to address God and describe him that were found in Holy Scripture is far from always reflected in the liturgy.
According to The Guardian, this initiative was met with a flurry of criticism from the conservative wing of the Anglicans. In particular, it is noted that Rev. Jan Paul likened it to a rejection of Christian doctrine, emphasizing that the fact that God is called “father” already suggests that he cannot be called “mother” or gender-neutral “parent” without loss of original meaning.
