Christmas season kicks off in European cities amid energy crisis

Traditional Christmas markets have opened in many European cities. This year’s celebrations will take place in the midst of an energy crisis, the Associated Press notes. For this reason, the city authorities are limiting the opening hours of holiday lighting or are switching to energy-saving lamps.
So, LED lamps are installed on Oxford Street in London, festive lighting in the British capital is open from 15:00 to 23:00.
In Paris, the Champs-Elysées is only illuminated until 23:45. In past years, it was light due to electricity until 2:00. In Verona, Strasbourg, Budapest and many other European cities, amid the energy crisis, they are also saving on decorative lighting.
It is worth noting that Europeans celebrated the previous two Christmases in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic modestly. Therefore, now some residents are in favor of saving electricity in other seasons, and celebrating Christmas 2022 magnificently, as before.
So, in Germany, they listened to the wishes, and the festive illumination will be bright, despite calls for restraint. In Spain, the authorities of many cities also considered it necessary not to save money on the main holiday of the year, believing that Christmas lights are an important part of the festive season.
