Russian Permanent Representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov, who announced the completion of 17 years of work in Europe, said that European countries have gone too far in sanctions, but the sanctions impulse “is largely emasculated.”

“They could, for example, turn the tap on Nord Stream 2,” Chizhov said. “But that would be the failure of their entire policy.” <...> achieve the defeat of Russia and its president.”

Chizhov also expressed the opinion that for the Europeans the key problem is gas, therefore it was not possible to reach a unanimous decision on setting a price ceiling.
