The State Bureau of Statistics of the PRC reported that in 2022, the population of China has decreased to 1.411 billion people. It is specified that this is 850 thousand inhabitants less than at the end of 2021.
According to local media, the decline in the population in China occurred for the first time in 60 years.
“By the end of last year, China’s population was 1 billion 411 million 750 thousand people. This number is 850,000 less compared to the end of 2021,” the ministry said.
This data does not include residents of Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as foreign nationals residing in the country.
