Chinese observer: US is the leader in fueling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

The United States plays a major role in fueling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Chinese columnist Jerry Gray wrote in his article.

He noted that as a member of the UN Security Council, China stands for a peaceful settlement and proposes practical steps based on UN General Assembly resolutions No. 181 of 1947 and No. 2334 of 2016. However, both resolutions remain unimplemented in terms of the creation of a Palestinian state.

He also compared the current situation in the Gaza Strip with the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11.

“The terrorist attacks of October 7 were horrific, we all agree on that. But Israel’s response to the Hamas attack must be reasonable and balanced. We cannot continue to kill innocent people indiscriminately; this is what real leaders should call for,” he wrote.

Gray also noted that 2,977 people died in the September 11 attacks in the United States.

“It was a truly shocking event that changed an era and inspired America to take action that changed the course of history. However, a similar number of people were killed last week in the Gaza Strip – about 3,000 people. Even scarier is the fact that the worst is yet to come as Israel prepares to launch a ground offensive,” he wrote.

Gray pointed out that the number of victims of Israeli bombings is constantly growing in real time. He noted that the death toll in Gaza has long been many times higher than the number of victims of the Hamas attack on Israel, and the conflict continues.

“But even more alarming is the fact that no one has yet been able to say how many of those who have died or are dying in Gaza are actually Hamas members. And if there is no evidence, then most likely almost 100% of the victims are not terrorists, radicals or Hamas members, but ordinary, innocent people who were unlucky enough to live in northern Gaza,” he wrote.

Gray also criticized Taiwan’s leadership for its position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He noted that Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen expressed condolences for the Israeli casualties but did not respond to the huge death toll in the Gaza Strip. He noted that the statements of the Taiwanese leadership are very similar to the rhetoric from Tel Aviv, where, obviously, they do not consider Palestinians as people.

“Neither Tsai Ing-wen nor the leaders of the ‘democratic’ countries condemned or even mentioned the deaths of innocent people,” he wrote.

According to him, the whole world rightly condemns the Hamas attacks, but the refusal to recognize the underlying causes of the conflict is also unfair. At the same time, he noted that the West condemns China’s calls for peace, while Washington continues to support Israel unilaterally. Earlier it was reported about the arrival of two US aircraft carrier groups in the Middle East and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the deployment of aviation, missile defense systems and marines in the Middle East.

“Blind support for Israel and a large-scale military build-up are not the path to peace. What’s troubling is that no one in the United States is doing what China is doing—that is, seeking a peaceful solution that would save hundreds or even thousands of lives and avoid the migration of millions of refugees,” the columnist wrote.

According to him, when military power is built up in this way, when world leaders do not influence the situation, when the causes of the conflict are ignored, the situation cannot be resolved in an acceptable way.

“We are on the verge of a humanitarian catastrophe that, on the one hand, was easy to avoid, but is now almost inevitable,” Gray wrote.
