Chinese WispRider virus infects devices via USB drives
The WispRider virus, allegedly released by the Chinese Camaro Dragon group, has spread all over the network thanks to a USB stick. Information security company Check Point writes about this.
It is reported that for the first time the virus infected a computer at a conference in Asia. One of the participants gave the flash drive to another in order to transfer the file. The latter’s device was infected. As a result, “patient zero” brought the virus to Europe, where he accidentally launched it into the network of one of the hospitals.
When connected to a computer, the virus creates several hidden folders, then copies the loader with its name and a standard icon onto the media. The user enters the files, assuming that these are his documents, while starting the infection of the system.
Cybersecurity experts advise instructing employees of organizations about the dangers of unknown USB media.
Earlier it was reported that attackers are able to download viruses to the iPhone using AirDrop.
