China protests US senator’s visit to Taiwan

The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed strong protest and dissatisfaction after the visit of US Republican Senator Marsha Blackbear to Taiwan.

“The unannounced visit of the relevant US senator to Taiwan seriously violates the One China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, and is contrary to the US commitment to maintain only informal relations with Taiwan. The Chinese side expresses strong dissatisfaction and strong protest in this regard,” declared at the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry also noted that China strongly recommends that the United States stop sending signals to Taiwan’s separatist forces and stop any official relations with them.

Earlier in China, dissatisfaction was expressed after the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. Despite multiple warnings, Pelosi still flew to the island as part of her tour of Asia to meet with local authorities. On August 2, she landed in Taiwan, which she left the next day.

After the Pelosi plane landed at Taipei Airport, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strongly protested and stated that this act seriously violated the “one China” principle, as well as the provisions of the three Sino-US communiqués. China urged the US to stop interfering in Beijing’s internal affairs and pandering to pro-Taiwan independence forces.

China considers Taiwan to be its province, so the PRC government opposes any contacts between the island’s administration and countries with which Beijing has diplomatic relations. China has repeatedly noted that it will take “serious measures” to protect the sovereignty of the country and its territorial integrity.
