China is the first country to legally regulate the activities of generative artificial intelligence

The China Cyberspace Administration and other PRC regulators are the first in the world developed rules governing the activities of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The new law will come into force on August 15 and will limit the activities of AI in the ability to generate content that is contrary to China’s politics and ideology.

The rules will only apply to AI available to users, and not to the development of research institutes. Generative AI services will now need to obtain a license to run. When illegal content is found, AI developers will have to rework its algorithms, and then report to regulators.

Previously, over a thousand specialists and representatives of the IT industry, including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, published an open letter calling for the suspension of AI training and the development of security protocols for working with these tools.
