The children of Anna Politkovskaya commented on the pardon of former UBOP detective Sergei Khadzhikurbanov, who was convicted in 2014 of organizing the murder of a journalist. Earlier on Tuesday it became known that Khadzhikurbanov took part in the SVO, then signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and continued his service after being pardoned.

They note that they consider what happened to be a “monstrous fact of injustice and arbitrariness” and “an outrage against the memory” of their mother, who was killed for the performance of her professional duty and her convictions.
Vera and Ilya Politkovsky also note that Khadzhikurbanov did not serve even half of the 20-year sentence assigned to him in 2014.
