The thermometers tend to rise, which means that the dangerous season of open windows is coming – the worst time for pediatric traumatologists. Curious fidgets strive to be on the windowsills, as soon as their parents turn away. Alas, the statistics in this area of ​​medical practice are disappointing. Last year, due to the negligence of adults in the Moscow region, 115 kids fell out of windows. 21 children died. Four people have not been saved this year.

“In 90% of cases, we are talking about prosperous families, and adults at the time of misfortune, as a rule, are at home,” says Ksenia Mishonova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Moscow Region. – Although they are very close, the children remain out of their field of vision. Dads or moms can talk on the phone, lock themselves in the toilet, go out onto the balcony, get busy in the kitchen. And sometimes one minute is enough for a child to climb onto the windowsill and look out the open window.

Mishonova also drew attention to paradoxical statistics. There are fewer cases of falling out from the upper floors every year. However, for unclear reasons, residents of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors are becoming more careless. Last year, these floors took top positions in the ranking of the most traumatic. Most often, children died, falling out of the 4th.

The very first misfortune this year happened in Podolsk. From the window of an apartment located just on the fourth floor, a two-year-old baby fell out. It happened on Cosmonautics Day. Contrary to statistics, the family was dysfunctional. It turned out that the mother at the time of the tragedy was under the influence of drugs and was sleeping.

“Citizens suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction, for obvious reasons, are the most “deaf audience,” says psychologist Anna Miroshnikova. – Even if they listen to a lecture that children should not be left alone and open windows, they will not be able to guarantee absolute safety for their babies, because they are in a deranged state for some part of the time. It is impossible to control them 24 hours a day. But guardianship authorities can at least regularly visit blacklisted addresses and demand that windows be kept open in a safe mode.

Deputies of the Moscow Regional Duma, by the way, have repeatedly said that it makes sense to give similar powers to district police officers. Let them go from house to house and remind negligent mothers how to fulfill their parental responsibilities. In addition, lawmakers are encouraging the distribution of window blockers to families in difficult life situations.

The chief doctor of the Moscow Regional Children’s Hospital, Alexander Grigoriev, in turn, warned that in apartments where families with children under 3 live, it is better to completely remove the handles from the windows.

“Do not open the windows more than a few centimeters,” the doctor said. – Limiters will help you regulate the modes of ventilation of the room. After setting the desired mode, remove the handles from the windows.

Tips for parents

– Children do not need to provoke interest in window sills: do not put toys there, do not sit on them yourself.

– No chairs or other pieces of furniture near windows. You can not allow the baby to climb them onto the windowsill.

– Mosquito net is not a replacement for glass. It cannot protect against falling. If a one-year-old baby leans on it, it will not even support its weight.

– Cords and chains should not be allowed to hang down from the blinds to the floor – the child can get tangled in them and suffocate).

– Special blockers on the windows are the best means of preventing falls.

– For children over 3 years old, it is best to explain in words why windows are so dangerous.

– Ventilate the room only in the frontal mode or with the help of a window.

– Remove the handles and check the condition of the frame fittings.
