It would seem, where is football and where is chess? Here are the legs, speed and reaction, here is the head and “gymnastics for the mind.” But, not everything is so clear. Modern football is no longer just hit-and-run. A football player must be able to calculate options as well as a computer, to foresee the consequences of his actions, to calculate combinations, in a word, to think and think quickly. In this, the two oldest sports in the history of mankind are similar.

Of course, a football player does not have to spend his free time at the chessboard, and a chess player does not have to play the ball. But one does not interfere with the other, and the placement side by side is very symbolic and rational. It is no coincidence that chess sections are created at major football academies. The Khabarovsk Football Academy “Iskra”, which opened a chess section, was no exception.

In general, it will not be entirely correct to call Iskra a football academy soon. Of course, the “Gentlemen’s Game” will continue to be the leading direction in the training of young athletes. But the academy is very fond of new, promising species. Here they are already developing a yard, or as it is also called – panna football, they go cheerleading team trainingnow there will also be chess.

And, as always, the most ambitious plans are the participation of our own students in the stages of the Russian Cup (the expenses for flights, accommodation and meals, as usual, will be covered by the academy), and even the organization of our own regional chess tournament. “We continue to recruit groups of motivated guys who want to play both general chess and sports. Our pupils will be assigned sports categories, they will participate in major competitions,” outlines the prospects Turan Takhirov, chess coach of the Iskra Academy.

Now everyone who wants to learn the “game of kings” is recruited to the section, ages from 5 to 12 years old, and now 45 kids go to classes. Let’s hope future grandmasters. Classes are held three times a week, teenagers are taught the theory, technique and practice of chess. Well, own regional tournament is also a necessary step in the preparation of high-level athletes. Champions are born only in real fights.

“We regularly hold the largest Far Eastern football competitions for children. He plans to implement his experience in the field of chess. We have a wonderful conference hall where you can organize a regional tournament. There are also modern locker rooms for athletes and shower rooms – the conditions are comfortable,” shares his plans Alexey Popov, Director of the Iskra Football Academy.

Recently, Iskra hosted a simultaneous chess session with the champion of the Khabarovsk Territory in chess, and such practices promise to be regular. There is also support from the regional federation – its president Pavel Bordyukhov expressed a desire to regularly see chess players from the football academy at city and regional competitions.
