Chernyshenko estimated the number of programmers working in Russia at 800,000

More than 800,000 IT specialists currently work in Russia, stated Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko in his congratulations on Programmer’s Day.

“Currently, over 800,000 programmers work in Russia. The state provides them with comprehensive support and creates comfortable conditions for working in Russia. The support measures taken by President Vladimir Putin were aimed at representatives of the IT industry, including programmers,” the government press service quotes him as saying.

Thanks to IT specialists, Russia entered the top 10 of the World Bank’s digitalization rankings, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. Currently, Russian universities provide training in 63 specialized specialties, he added.

In April, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Parshin said, that in 2022 the number of IT specialists in Russia increased by 12% to 761,000. The salaries of such employees, he noted then, are twice as high as those of workers in other industries. According to the Ministry of Digital Development, in 2022 they grew by 19%, which is “more than the economic average,” he specified.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Digital Development reportedthat by the end of the year the number of preferential mortgage loans issued for IT specialists with a rate of up to 5% per annum will reach 30,000.
