Chelyabinsk will host a judo tournament with a prize fund of about 3 million rubles

For the first time, the capital of the Southern Urals will host a stage of the professional tournament Russian Judo Tour, the organizers of the competition told about this at a press conference.

Russian Judo Tour is a series of professional tournaments in which the strongest Russian and foreign athletes take part. The previous stages took place in St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk and Maikop. Now it’s Chelyabinsk’s turn to host the competition.

The capital of the Southern Urals was not chosen by chance. Chelyabinsk has solid experience in organizing major tournaments – in different years the world and European championships in judo were held here.

“Spectators are waiting for a beautiful event, which the city has long missed. Chelyabinsk is undoubtedly a city with glorious judo traditions. We are very pleased that the traditional tournament in memory of Grigory Verichev has reached a new level. This will allow our athletes to take part and compete with more titled rivals, as well as gain the necessary competitive experience,” commented Alexander Grib, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chelyabinsk Region.

Competitions will be held in the training and sports complex “Manezh” UralGUFK. The organizers will have to build venues for fights that meet international standards. It is planned to install three tatami mats so that the preliminary bouts take place simultaneously. At the same time, the final fights will take place on the central tatami. Also, in addition to the stationary stands, a mobile one will be erected so that the room can accommodate everyone.

“It is very important for us that the competitions are attended by young athletes, pupils of sports schools in the region, who, at arm’s length, will be able to see their idols and support them. In addition, the interactive content of the foyer of the site is being worked out to make it even more interesting for the audience. An exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Russian Judo Federation will be held in the foyer of the Manege training and sports complex, master classes with famous athletes, autographs and photo shoots will also be held, ”said the head of the communications and events organization department of the Chelyabinsk Region Sports Support Fund Tatyana Melnikova.

The tournament has a total prize fund, which is almost three million rubles. The winners will receive 100,000 rubles each, while the second and third places will receive 50,000 and 25,000 rubles, respectively.

South Ural athletes have been among the elite of Russian judo for many years. Currently, the fighters are preparing for the main sports start – the Russian Championship. The names of those who will go on the Russian Judo Tour will be announced in early November.
