Chelyabinsk stadium named after Elena Elesina is being prepared for federal television broadcasts

In early August, Chelyabinsk will host large-scale competitions – the Russian Athletics Championship will be held here

Holding the main event for all athletes of the country requires appropriate conditions. The stadium in Chelyabinsk began to prepare in January of this year. The correspondent of “MK-Chelyabinsk” asked the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city Maxim Kleshchevnikov at what stage of work now.

According to the interlocutor of the publication, at the moment the lighting at the stadium named after Elena Elesina has been completely replaced with a new one. Each of the masts was equipped with 15 LED devices. “Updated equipment will allow better reporting and broadcasting for federal channels. The large-scale event, which will be attended by about 800 athletes from our country, will definitely receive wide coverage on television,” said Maxim Kleshchevnikov.

In addition, work is now being completed to replace the benches in the stands with individual seats. This is done for the comfort of the spectators, who will become part of a landmark event for Chelyabinsk, and athletes will be supported in the stands. Over 4,000 people will be able to attend the event at the same time. “In addition, we will carry out cosmetic work on sports bowls and other sports facilities that will be used by the participants of the competition. All this as a whole will significantly improve the infrastructure of the facility,” said the head of the Department for Physical Culture and Sports.

It is worth noting that, especially for the Russian Championship, work is currently underway at the stadium to equip the warm-up circle. In this zone, athletes will be able to prepare for races without interfering with current competitions. The length of the four new tracks will be about 200 meters.

A feature of the Championship this year will be the participation in the event of about 30 athletes from the Republic of Belarus. “Thanks to the close cooperation of our countries, the best Belarusian athletes this year in the framework of the championship will compete with Russian athletes. For example, Belarusian pole vaulter Matvey Volkov will compete on a par with our South Uralian Timur Morgunov. We also expect star athletes such as Vladimir Nikitin, Konstantin Kholmogorov, Elena Gulyaeva, Svetlana Aplachkina. In total, we will play for more than 40 sets of medals,” said Maxim Kleshchevnikov.

South Ural athletes are now actively preparing for the upcoming important competitions. Athletes also train at the Elena Elesina Stadium. In order for our guys to adequately represent the region, they create all the conditions.

It is worth noting that in 2022 Chelyabinsk successfully hosted the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest athletes in athletics. According to the results of the tournament, it entered the top 30 best starts in the world. The World Athletics Association recognized sports competitions in the regional center as one of the strongest. Then more than 400 athletes from 53 regions of Russia took part in them. “Chelyabinsk is famous for hosting iconic events, including sports, so I am sure that athletes and spectators will appreciate the World Championships and they will get the same good impressions from the event as they did from last year’s Olympics,” Maxim Kleshchevnikov concluded.
