Instagram (blocked in the Russian Federation; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) has a new format – “Channels”. This was announced by the founder of Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) Mark Zuckerberg on his page on the platform.
Channels allow creators to post text messages, images, and polls, Zuckerberg said. Reactions are available for subscribers. The channels that the user is subscribed to are displayed in the Direct tab.
The instructions of the social network say that with the help of channels, the authors can broadcast to an unlimited audience. It is clarified that subscribers cannot send messages on the channel. The founder of the corporation added that in the coming months, the function will also appear in Messenger and Facebook (both owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
Zuckerberg has unveiled his own Meta Channel, where he plans to post news about the company’s products and technologies. At the time of writing, 277,000 users subscribed to the channel.
In December 2022, Zuckerberg announced the launch of Notes on Instagram. With the new feature, users can leave short messages (max 60 characters) for their followers and close friends. The text message is displayed as a status in the Direct tab and disappears a day after publication.
