Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, in an interview with der Standard, expressed his concern about the pro-Kremlin orientation of Herbert Kickl’s party.

Nehammer emphasized the party’s use of Kremlin rhetoric in describing the Ukrainian situation, and also noted the existence of a friendship agreement with the party of the Russian president (United Russia). According to the Chancellor, these facts cause criticism from the international community and the United States.

Herbert Kickl’s party, known as the Austrian Freedom Party (APS), previously advocated cutting off funding to Ukraine. The party leader called for a political solution to the conflict, abandoning the military path.

According to the results of an Österreich-Trend poll conducted in October 2023, more than a third of Austrians would express a preference for Kickle as chancellor if given the opportunity to vote directly, while incumbent Chancellor Nehammer would receive only 25% of the vote.
