Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk hosted the championship and championship of the Sakhalin region in karate. The competition was held in honor of the National Unity Day. Athletes from Kholmsk, Nevelsk and Gornozavodsk, Yuzhno-Kurilsk, Anivsky and Poronaysky regions, as well as directly from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, gathered for them. Details were told in the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region.
Based on the results, a team of the Sakhalin Region will be formed from athletes of different ages. Most adult karatekas perform consistently, their victories in regional competitions do not come as a surprise. Therefore, there is more intrigue in the younger groups.
“Guys improve their skills every year, new stars make themselves known. In the categories of 10-11, 12-13 years old there is more competition, there are more participants. In order to be on the podium, the athletes will have to fight four or five successful fights,” said Alexander Rim, chief judge of the competition.
In January 2023, athletes aged 12-13 will have to go to Nalchik for the All-Russian competitions. The most chances to get there are medalists – winners of the regional championship.
At the regional tournament, 34 sets of medals were played as part of the championship and six as part of the championship.
