Champions of the South Federal District in rugby-7 were determined in Kislovodsk

Kislovodsk hosted the second championship of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts in the Olympic rugby-7 discipline among student teams. Eight teams took part in the competitions, which were held on the territory of the Youth Sports School.

“Athletes from the Rostov Region, Kabardino-Balkaria, Dagestan, the Chechen Republic, the Krasnodar Territory, Volgograd came to participate in the competitions in the resort city,” said the head of Kislovodsk, Evgeny Moiseev. “The local team was represented by the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody team, which included students from Pyatigorsk and Kislovodsk.

Rostov and Krasnodar met in the final game. Kuban students won a confident victory with a score of 29:5. The third place was taken by the team of Makhachkala. Among the eight best players in the championship is a member of the CMV team Sergey Mikeylov.

In the fall, among the best student teams in Russia, the country’s champion in rugby-7 will be selected at the Kislovodsk site. Thus, as the mayor noted, Kislovodsk has already become the sports capital of the region.

“Rugby is quite popular in Russia. Children, adults, student competitions are held. Russians feel very confident in rugby-7s – every year Russian students confirm the status of European champions, – he added. “Now qualifying tournaments are being held in all regions of the Russian Federation.”
