Hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika” started in the playoffs of the 2024 Kharlamov Cup. The team from Nizhny Novgorod is the current holder of the trophy and performed well during the regular season, receiving an automatic ticket to the Kharlamov Cup playoffs. Based on the results of 50 regular season matches played, Chaika took 4th place in the Golden Division of the Eastern Conference, gaining 66 points. Only rivals representing Omsk, Chelyabinsk and Khanty-Mansiysk performed better than the Nizhny Novgorod team.
In the first round of the Kharlamov Cup playoffs, Alexey Isakov’s team faced their principal rivals from Kazan, who took 5th place in the “Golden” division. The series is very difficult for both teams, given the equality in class and skill. In the first match, Irbis won a landslide victory with a score of 3:1, and the next day the audience saw mirror numbers in favor of Chaika, which equalized the series score. Thus, the confrontation moves to Kazan with an equal score.
The third match of the Kharlamov Cup playoff series between Irbis and Chaika will take place on March 11. The meeting is scheduled to start at 18:30 Moscow time.
